Why add vitality testing?
Immotile does not always mean non-viable.
A semen analysis can show a high percentage of sperm that are not moving. That result alone does not tell you whether those sperm are alive. Vitality testing makes the distinction, separating sperm that are alive but not moving from sperm that are non-viable.
That distinction matters clinically. Low motility with preserved vitality points in a different direction than low motility with low vitality, and the difference can change what your physician recommends next.
Vitality is assessed in our CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited high-complexity andrology laboratory using WHO 6th Edition (2021) methodology and is reported with sperm microscopy images and video for physician review.
WHO 6th Edition (2021) sets a lower reference limit of 54% viable sperm. Reference limits are not standalone fertility diagnoses and should be interpreted with your physician.
How to add it
Vitality can be added to the At-Home Comprehensive Semen Analysis. It is already included in the At-Home Advanced Semen Analysis, along with DNA Fragmentation Index. Vitality is not offered with Post-Vasectomy Analysis.
